A Fish Story . . . or Red Devil Meets His Match
Out in the Gulf ,where hungry sharks circle sunken treasures of Spaniard wreckage, he cast his baited hook deep into the black waters. The weathered seaman, feeling his trips are numbered, looked down into the troubled waves.
"He waits for me, Red Devil does, as I wait for him. Which of us will be the victor? Will I pull him from his hiding haven, or he take me to his dark abyss?" the seaman wondered.
Waiting. Waiting. Then a nibble. A tug! Something has taken the hook!
"Is that you, Red Devil? Have we finally met?" The captured breaks from the depths in an effort to escape. "No," comes the disappointed reply, "only a marlin not worth reeling in." and he cut his line, allowing the seven foot fool another day of life.
Out into the dark waters he sends his camouflaged killer once again. Waiting for the "devil" to give him the fight of his life. The rocking of the ship, the morning sun sparkling on the water, these are common day occurrences to the seasoned fisherman. Waiting, waiting, waiting.
Suddenly, a hit deep from the ocean floor, sent adrenalin racing through the seaman's veins. This is it! This is what he has spent his life on the sea for! And now the fight!
Sink the hook. Reel slowly. Keep it taunt. Fight and don't look him in the eye. Little by little, a battle of strength ensues. Reeling and pulling, the seaman brings the finned fighter closer and closer to his final breath. His muscles ache. His legs, though steady, feel weary as the battle rages on. Finally into the vessel the devil is thrust, dangling from a thin noose and fighting in vain for his life.
"Today, I am victorious, " he laughs a satisfied laugh. Then the seaman, tired and battered from the fight, looks to the shore. Ah, there she is. The love of his life, awaiting his safe return.
